We have a litter due the end of March and more on the way!
The Super Dog Program, also known as Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), is a gentle, science-based protocol used with puppies between 3 and 16 days of age. This brief daily stimulation is designed to support early neurological development, helping puppies grow into more confident, resilient, and adaptable dogs.
Originally developed for military working dogs, the program has since been widely adopted by responsible breeders to promote improved stress tolerance, cardiovascular strength, and overall performance.
The 3–16 day window is a critical developmental period when a puppy’s neurological system is rapidly forming. During this time, short, controlled stimuli can positively influence how the nervous system responds to stress later in life.
Each exercise is performed once daily and lasts only 3–5 seconds:
Tactile Stimulation – Gentle tickling between the toes with a Q-tip
Head Erect – Holding the puppy upright, perpendicular to the ground
Head Down – Holding the puppy with the head pointed downward
Supine Position – Cradling the puppy on its back in the palm of the hand
Thermal Stimulation – Briefly placing the puppy on a cool, damp towel
These exercises are carefully timed and never forced.
Puppies that participate in ENS often show:
Greater resilience to stress
Increased confidence and adaptability
Improved cardiovascular and immune responses
A calmer, more stable temperament
Many owners describe ENS-raised dogs as less rattled, more trainable, and better able to handle new environments.
While the Super Dog Program focuses on the earliest days of life, it is just the first step in raising well-rounded puppies. As puppies grow, we incorporate continued age-appropriate enrichment and socialization, including principles such as the Rule of Sevens, to support emotional, cognitive, and social development.
